Have used this device for a while and it’s been good for our leggy 26kg girl. But in a whoopsie the door was opened when she was tethered, she lept out and the restraint tore off at the seat belt clip?? Not so good in an emergency stop??
Sorry to hear it tore. That is correct that it is designed to keep the dog from flying or jumping around while driving, i.e. ensuring that the dog can't run loose in the car. But for the event of an accident the safest way to have the dog secured is in a solid crash tested travel crate that is properly attached in the car. Most harnesses aren't crash proof either unfortunately. We do also have a metal seatbelt clip that is used with your actual seatbelt if you'd like to look at something that can't tear, but it also wouldn't be crash tested unfortunately.
This is just fine for my girl as it gives her enough length to get comfy in the back seat and at same time prevents her trying to move to the front. It has so far proved strong enough for her as well.

Love my seatbelt attachments! My dog gets anxious in the car and tries to get onto my lap so this has been a game changer. He’s happy in the back now and is learning to chill.
