Canine Enrichment

Why is enrichment important for your dog?ย

DOGS NEED ENRICHMENT...

...to reduce stress, give them some control over their environment, and keep them occupied in constructive, non-destructive ways that encourage their natural behaviours.

Be sure to provide a variety of tug toys, chew toys, food toys... and supervise their use initially to create the right habits.ย

Feed meals out of work-to-eat toys or toss kibble in the grass for them to find/snuffle.

Other non-food enrichment is letting your dog-social pooch hang with mates here and there in a controlled way, providing your dog that loves digging with a legal digging spot, do some tracking and tugging with toys to release energy, let your dog use their nose and spend some bonding time with each other.

And of course: Give your enriched canineย loads of opportunities to sniff out on their walks. Dogs navigate the world through their noses, like humans do through their eyes.

Enrichment isn't a method of tiring dogs out, it's a method of increasing their wellbeing.

Please remember your dogโ€™s safety is your responsibility. No dog toy is indestructible. Choose only toys that are the appropriate shape and size for your dog and always supervise your dogโ€™s use of toys.
