Tug-E-Nuff Clam

This has been a great hit with my 7 month old labrabradoodle puppy. He is a very fussy eater, but if I put his kibble into the clam and throw it for him to fetch, he eats happily and asks for a refill and another throw.

Ah, that's nice! So he really enjoys working for his food in collaboration with you and remaining active. Fantastic tool for that!

Great idea, but …!

My Swiss Shepherd loves to ‘discover’ things and lives a challenge but when introduced to the clam her priority was to chew it open rather than nose it open. Sadly it didn’t stay pristine for long despite being introduced as per video. I’m not sure what I could have done differently for it not to be chewed open?

Thank you for your feedback! It sounds like your Swiss Shepherd is a smart and determined pup. When first introducing the Clam, it's helpful to have it slightly open already. Start by doing this in your hand. Place a few treats inside to show your dog where the goodies are, and let them discover how to access them. Once they’ve got the hang of it, close it just a little and hold it in a way that allows them to push it open with a gentle nudge, similar to how they initially went for the treats. As your dog becomes more confident with the action, you can gradually close it a bit tighter until it's properly shut. Once your dog is comfortable with that, move to the floor, right in front of you and go through all the same steps again. If they start to get frustrated or try to chew it open, simply take a step back and repeat the previous, easier step before progressing again.
Some dogs pick it up quickly, but for others, like those who might prefer to chew it open, it can take a bit more patience. With time and practice, they should get the hang of it.

There’s always one ….

Well, I watched the YouTube video about letting the dog see you put treats into the clam, and holding it slightly open for him to take the treats out ( for the first time you use it) but Benson grabbed the clam, threw the treats on the floor and ran off laughing and has had masses of fun with the empty clam for AGES , guarding it possessively whenever we’ve tried to take it away to put treats in it as per its “ proper” use. So - great toy in itself; no time to muck around putting treats in it! He’s an ultra extreme chewer so we are watching it nervously but so far he seems to be enjoying its size and texture and basically just cuddling it. Weird little puppy that he is! Hopefully one day soon we’ll get our act together and use it as intended!!

Haha, as long as he loves it ;p

Pup got it open within 5 seconds

Great toy, definatly tuff enough but the velcro needs to be a stronger grip.. like way stronger. Pup got it open within 5 seconds

The toy is designed to keep treats safely nestled inside, so they don’t fall out when you throw it and then instantly reward your dog as they open it themselves. If it took any longer than 5 seconds, the purpose of the instant reward would be gone. The toy's challenge isn't in opening it, it's in tracking for it or chasing it and being able to be rewarded on the spot rather than you having to go over to your dog to reward them.

My new favourite thing, my dogs too

Love this, can be used in variety of ways
Been struggling to teach my dog a remote sit, nailed it with this. Also yesterday, some kids wanted to give my excited dog a treat, and i used his clam...... if i pull it out, it catches his eye immediately, so i get instant buy-in. Also so well made, i went back and got 2, in case i misplace it.

Your dog sounds fantastic! So great he is so engaged with the enrichment items you got him. Sounds like you are doing fantastic training and management as well! <3
