Neovela's active ingredient, selamectin, is an avermectin antiparasitic that targets and eliminates a wide range of parasites. Applied topically, it is absorbed into the skin and distributed throughout the body, providing comprehensive protection against multiple parasites.

While selamectin is generally well tolerated by all dogs, including those with the MDR1 gene mutation, caution is advised in Collies, Australian Shepherds, Shetland Sheepdogs, and other herding breeds known to potentially carry this mutation. Dogs with the MDR1 mutation may experience neurological side effects only when exposed to high doses of macrocyclic lactones—typically far beyond the levels used for routine parasite prevention, such as those used in treating mange.
At preventative doses, selamectin and other macrocyclic lactones are considered safe, even for dogs with the MDR1 mutation.
