New York Times' Best Dog Nail Clipper

A FAVOURITE AMONGST GROOMERS, VETS AND TRAINERS

Millers Forge has been a premium manufacturer of pet grooming and related products that are used by veterinarians, pet groomers and pet owners worldwide for over 65 years.

Not only is this nail trimmer one that will last years if not a lifetime (unlike most that only get worse as you use them), it is also extremely good at its job. The best tool for trimming nails as it's sharp, can take off tiny precise slices and is suitable for most dogs except giant breeds. It produces the quickest, neatest trim and is the least stressful for both - pet and handler. Easy to use, easy to see the nail, cuts thinly and is very sharp for working around the quick.

This nail trimmer is a no-nonsense tool that cuts cleanly, consistently, comfortably, and effortlessly without losing its edge or hurting your hands. The red-handled clipper is easily manoeuvrable and has a metal bar guard to stop you from cutting too much nail at once if you like to use it - most people tend to just move this out of the way in practise though and some that like to use it feel that it's best to blutack in place as it can otherwise move on its own. With the spring-loaded cutting mechanism you get a smooth and clean cut with less noise and more comfort for your dog.

Key Features:

  • Durable plier-style nail clipper
  • Quality-made of stainless steel to withstand years of use
  • Comfortable red plastic grip for secure hold. Please note that the red handle cover can be removed and some find it more comfortable to glue it in place so it doesn't ever slip off.
  • Spring-loaded cutting mechanism for more precise cutting action
  • Easy to use latch to lock the trimmers closed for storage and maintenance, protecting the blades
  • Built-in guard can be moved into position to prevent over-cutting of nails
--> though it tends to be fairly loose and may need to be blutacked in place if you wish to use it
  • 12.7 cm long, 60g

Have an anxious dog around handling? Maybe this blog post will provide some guidance.

Clean cut

A much cleaner cut than the clippers I've used before

Nice, glad to hear it. :)

Nail clipper review

I particularly bought these because of the safety guard, which does not work its loose and doesn't sit in place. I rung to query this and was told to use blue tac to hold it in place. Unsatisfactory in my opinion

Thanks for your review and sorry to hear you are unsatisfied.
It does say in the product description:
'most people tend to just move this [metal bar guard] out of the way in practise and some that like to use it feel that it's best to blutack in place as it can otherwise move on its own.' and '[Built-in guard] tends to be fairly loose and may need to be blutacked in place if you wish to use it', so we feel it's pretty clear that the safety guard is not the selling feature of these clippers.
However, when you emailed about the safety guard moving a couple of weeks ago, I offered you to return the Nail Clippers for a refund but never heard back - please be in touch if you'd like to talk about this.

Amazing

Cuts through my big weimaraner nails like they are butter! Have convinced all the vet nurses that we need them at our clinics! None of that nasty clicking or pinching that other blunter clippers can have!

Always love to hear a review like this. Firstly that you can use them on a big Weimaraner and secondly that you use them in the vet clinic. :)
Thanks so much for sharing!

Only clippers you need!

Took my dogs to the vet and saw that these clipped their nails like butter and they didn't even react!! My dogs are traumatised from the groomers and even the slightest pressure makes them nip. All the clippers I own are not sharp enough or don't have the right cut angle/pressure. Literally nothing compares to these!

Oh, I am so glad the clippers are a tool that helps you help your dogs through their past nail trimming traumas. Thank you for sharing and good luck with getting better clipping experiences in the future!
