Mentally & Physically Stimulating

ENGAGE WITH YOUR DOG'S NATURAL PREY DRIVE

A piece of exercise equipment for dogs that entices a dog to chase a fast moving lure. Often used for training or simply to get a dog to exert a lot of energy in a small space.

The idea is to move the lure so that the dog cannot catch it easily, i.e., "flirt" with the dog.

To prevent the dog from catching the lure too easily, you can move the pole (and lure) faster, snap the pole to change directions, or swing the lure in the air, just out of the dog’s reach.

It is important for the dog's mental wellbeing that they are allowed to catch the lure after they have chased it a bit.

  • The difference between the two Flirt Pole sizes relates to the size of your play area. We recommend a minimum unobstructed space of 4.5x4.5m to use the regular size Flirt Pole. The Compact size is much easier to use in play areas smaller than that.
    • Regular size flirt pole has a 90cm pole section and 1.3m cord
    • Compact size available for smaller play areas with 60cm pole and 1m cord
  • 1 free Squishy Face lure included, get spares here
  • Made in the USA using components tested for durability, strength, safety and light weight (weighs less than a pound)
  • Bungee cord to prevent “whiplash” when lure is caught
  • Can be used with dogs of any size
  • Soft, non-slip grip and wrist strap for easy handling

PLEASE NOTE: The Flirt Pole is not designed to be used as a tug toy. Never let your dog play with the Flirt Pole unsupervised. It will not survive as a chew toy. Always put it away after use. Do not allow your dog to chew on the bungee cord. Check cord frequently for damage and discontinue use if damage is found.

Great for impulse control training!

My Border Collie Boston has been loving his play sessions with the flirt pole, and best of all he's starting to pick up "drop it" -- something I thought would be impossible! Combined with a favourite treat we've had great success with short bursts of stimulation and impulse control training, and I'm happy with how sturdy the pole and squishy face lure have proven to be with a few weeks of intense playtime.

What a fantastic review. I love the action shot too. Boston is gorgeous and I am so glad to hear the Flirt Pole is working so well for you guys! :)

I have added one of his pics to the product page <3

Yay Boston for learning the drop cue!!

Great fun and excellent value!

This flirt pole is brilliant for our Dobermann. He has lots of energy and loves to play. I was uncertain if the flirt pole was worth the cost, but hands down, it's the best value of anything I've bought to keep him happy and living his best doggy life. Thank you!

That’s so awesome to hear! I’m really glad it’s been such a great way to burn off some of that Dobermann energy. Thanks for the lovely feedback.

Hmmm...well, that's disappointing

Nowhere in the description does it state that these toys are for dogs that are at least a year old. But it does on the label attached to it when it arrives.

Oh well, I guess we'll be able to use it in about nine months' time.

Didn't want to give a star rating as it's just something you need to put in your item description, so that people can decide on a different toy for their puppy. But it won't let me review unless I do.

Do you mean because it says 'Causing any dog to jump can be hazardous; especially dogs under one year of age, whose bones are still growing.'? That doesn't mean you can't use the flirt pole with a dog under one year of age. You can absolutely enjoy the flirt pole with a puppy. You just want to keep the play grounded — focus on chasing and catching rather than encouraging high jumps, which can put strain on developing joints. However, that's how we encourage the use of the Flirt Pole anyways, also for fully grown dogs - just encourage healthy movements, don't play on slippery ground, etc.
Sorry to hear there was confusion. Hope that healped clear it up and you'll be able to have fun with your pup now. :)

Excellent toy for those days you need quick bouts of exercise

This has been a life saver for me and my 1 year old Rottweiler pup. Now if I have dinner plans after work I can play with him for 10-20 mins or so and he is exhausted from this game. Instantly pees afterwards and then drinks loads of water, so it clearly is a workout. My only comment is I should have got the smaller one, as my backyard isn’t that big. But it still works.

That's fantastic news! Thanks so much for sharing. So glad you and your Rottie love it. :)

Fantastic!

This is an excellent dog toy. Our Australian Cattle Dog (Blue Heeler) loves it and took to it straight away. It’s a fun, stimulating toy! Essential!

Great product. Did have to sdd a possum piece to the lure, but thats just my dog. Great video and instructions. Impulse control training v necessary. Good info re prey drive

'I'm only chasing the real thing' :D Fair enough - glad the Possum Tail does the trick. At the end you could finish with a Rabbit Roll to complete the prey sequence.
Glad you enjoyed the additional info I emailed through as well. Thanks so much for the review!

Excellent!

My dogs love their flirt pole! I've attached fluffy toys to it, and have ordered some possum tails to attach to it for their Christmas presents.

Ha perfect. Keeping it interesting. Love to hear it's a hit, thanks for sharing! <3

Did someone say Prey Drive??

Our Staffie/whippet cross has an extra prey drive and this almost beats birds!!! She loves chasing and catching it. It has enabled us to give her a great workout as well as teach her to sit before play and her “leave it” is slowly improving too. In the backyard it is a huge hit. In bigger play areas not yet. But I think we’ll get there.

Oh, this sounds like it's the perfect match for her, so good to hear! Nice impulse control training and the perfect substitution for the chase of animals out and about. And good exercise too. Thanks for sharing <3
If you have a video, we are always curious.

Wonderful Idea

I made a mistake when introducing it to my pup and made her a little wary of the pole. I wonder if i should have got the short one? In any case, its a brilliant way to give some enrichment and fun to your dog. Especially good if you are mobility impaired.

It's a great tip to introduce it slowly, thanks for pointing that out. Hopefully with the tips provided you'll be able to get her back into enjoying it <3

So good!

My dog loves this toy! A good way to release energy ready to settle in to his evening routine. I loosely tie the Kiwi Canine possum tails onto the end which gets him even more engaged and allows him to use his instincts to tug the tail to untie it so he gets an added 'reward' for his efforts :)

I LOVE that!! Not only does he get to chase and catch, he also gets to kill and maybe even dissect. What a great idea! <3

Time will tell

Was so excited to get this, but could not get my girl to engage no matter what I did. I'll keep trying but maybe it's not for every dog.
It's a great tool and well made.

Oh no! Is your girl into chasing things usually? What you could start with is attach the toy onto a simple string and have her chase that around a bit and let her catch it as well. Maybe she's finding the stick a bit intimidating at this point. In that case you would add the toy back onto the flirt pole once she already knows how much fun it is.

Pepi Loves It

My Shih Tzu/Maltese Cross Pepi thinks the Flirt Pole is fantastic. It is the next best thing to her favourite treat. Have to play with the flirt pole several times a day. I'm not sure who enjoys the games the most Pepi or myself.

Naww, how awesome is that!? We'd love a video if you fancy sharing! <3
