Front clips can be helpful when used safely, with compassion and in combination with a back clip on a well-fitted harness. To do this, you would need a double-ended lead, which is a lead with a clip at either end. One clip can be attached to the back of the harness, and the other to the front. The back-clip must be considered the default attachment point when walking and the front D-ring is only to be used in conjunction with that back D-ring. If the lead is only attached to the front D-ring then it is always going to be pulling either to the left or right side of the dog, which will be very unbalancing for them and for this reason, the front D-ring is NOT designed to take the pressure that the back D-ring can. Because it can be tricky to learn to use the double clip setup and it's hard to do if you need your other hand for something else like treating your dog, you can use this Guide Handle to make it easier. The handle is a comfy loop with a large ring on the end that you can fit our Training Lead through before attaching it to the two points on the dog's harness. The lead flows freely through the ring, allowing you to communicate effectively with your dog. Use the handle to guide, gently stir and direct. Learn in below's video exactly how to do so.
