The Mānuka Chew for Dogs

FINALLY AN ACTUAL STICK YOUR DOG CAN CHEW

CAREFULLY HAND CRAFTED IN NEW ZEALAND FOR SLOW DESTRUCTION

Bonno’s ethically sourced Mānuka wood is slow dried, debarked, then treated with New Zealand flaxseed oil. Each Bonno chew is hand finished to a smooth texture ready for it to be destroyed.

LONG LASTING, SAFE FUN

Bonno chews are the long lasting nibble, fun and great for teething. Mānuka wood is fibrous and safe for the most enthusiastic chewer – the fragments are blunt and soft.
The wood-shaving like fragments of Mānuka wood that your dog will chew off a Bonno are edible and of no harm. In fact, this is the reward your dog is working towards - slowly destruct their Bonno. Mānuka wood, just like most other woods, is mainly fibre without other nutritional values and cannot be digested. Just like for humans, fibre supports a good digestion system. Mānuka wood is also free from essential oils.
No animal products, artificial ingredients or additives. Suitable for dogs with allergies.

NATIVE MĀNUKA

Fast-growing Mānuka has been used in New Zealand for centuries, valued for its medicinal qualities, honey and strong wood. The wood for Bonno chews is sourced as a by-product from local industries.

Key Features:

  • Long lasting & 100% natural
  • Grown & hand made in New Zealand
  • Plastic free chew & packaging
  • Assists with dental hygiene
  • Splinter free for safe chewing
  • Locally sourced
  • Dense fibres for a durable & low mess chew (not no mess though!)

Safety Tips: Bonno is a dog chew toy. Replace Bonno when it is too short for your dog to hold in their paws. Discard large fragments. Suitable for puppies 3 months and older. Always supervise the use of Bonno.
Pick the right size Bonno for your dog to give them the best and long lasting chewing experience. If Bonno is too small, your dog will easily and quickly destroy the chew and might be able to pull large and thick strips off. If Bonno is too big for your dog, they could lose interest.

Bonno chew large

We bought a small and a large. Dogs took no interest for over a week, even put vegemite on and one dog did a random chew on small one. Hubby sawed the large one in half length wise. Finally they took some interest. Wouldn't say it's their go to. Prefer deer antlers but happy not having totally wasted money. I think we often read the good reviews and have high expectations that our dogs will love products too, but sometimes they just don't or need a little longer.

Just like people, every dog has their own preferences, and sometimes it takes a little time (or creativity!) for them to warm up to something new. It’s true that expectations can be high, especially after reading glowing reviews, so we really appreciate your balanced feedback. While we’re sorry to hear it wasn’t your dogs’ favourite, we're glad it didn’t go completely to waste and that they showed some interest in the end.

Well loved (by dog) but sadly does not last very long with a strong chewer, marks carpet

I like the idea behind this but think it will be a special occasion/infrequent/y purchased chew for our dog. She is an 18 kg Koolie (Australian working bred) and a very strong chewer. I got her the correct size for her weight but she has already eaten through over half of this in a couple of sessions. So it does not last as long as her Kong Extreme (can last her 6+ months before she manages to start getting chunks off it and needs to be replaced). Also beware if you have lighter coloured carpets, as this does make pink-brown marks on the carpet. It also involves a lot of extra vacuuming as we get little bits of wood everywhere after she chews it (she is meant to stay on her mat with it, but often moves off a little with her exhuberance). She does really love it and I like that it is locally made and wood, I just can't afford to keep her chewing habits up in this, so will reserve it for when I feel like getting her a treat rather than her everyday chew.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful review and for giving the Bonno a try with your Koolie! Really glad to hear she loved it, even if it didn’t last quite as long as you'd hoped.
Given her strong chewing power (especially if she gets through Kong Extremes!), we’d recommend trying the XL size next time — many heavy chewers find the upsized version more durable. We also offer a range of tough toys like our black Can Toys and the GoughNuts toys, which come with a replacement guarantee and might be a better everyday option for her chewing style.
Thanks again for your support and for taking the time to share your experience — I truly appreciate it.

Perfect!

Isla the 7 month old puppy is a serial stick chewer. We were looking for an alternative to unsafe sticks and to add variety to her array of meaty chews. It took her until now to be keen to chew the Bonno (I think it was a little hard when I got it at 5 months for her) but she’s hooked now!

Ah that's fantastic that she got into it a bit later on. Funny how that goes sometimes. Thanks so much for the cute photo! <3

Great bone

My 7 month puppy loved it: he’s always chewing on logs and brining them inside to make a mess, this was a great alternative. So much so that my 6 year old dog decided to steal it so I bought another one. 2 very happy beagles.

Naww, thanks so much for the photos! That's awesome they both love it! <3
